Your next assignment is based on exercises from two chapters, one from the
main textbook,
and the other from a new textbook that I am writing. I recommend that you print
out this chapter and begin reading it,
through section 1.5, before lab on Monday.
From chapter 3 of The Universal Computer, do 3.1(a, d, e), 3.7, 3.8,
3.13, 3.21, 3.23, 3.24, 3.34, 3.46, 3.63, 3.76, 3.78, 3.90, 3.96.
In lab on Monday, you will first learn how to install the Java Development Kit
and Eclipse.
Then you will look at the multimedia in Design First with Java,
Objects and Classes.
When the multimedia tells you to do exercises in Eclipse, you should do so.
Ask for help if you need it.
While you are working with the multimedia, you will also work on the following exercises
from the first chapter of Design First with
Java in lab:
After completing the screen entitled The shapes project, do exercise 1.12 in the chapter (write down your answers in notepad and save your work).
Then return to the multimedia. After completing the screen entitled Data type quiz,
do exercises 1.14, 1.16, 1.17, 1.18, 1.19 and 1.22 (write down your answers for exercises in bold-face).
Then complete the multimedia. When you are done, make sure you have completed exercises 1.29 and 1.30.
You will hand in your solutions to the exercises in bold-face as part of your homework assignment
(copy and paste the source code for your programs into your homework file for the assignment).
You may work in pairs on the above Java exercises. If you do, include your partner's name when you submit your homework.
Note: you must do your own work for above exercises from chapter 3
of The Universal Computer.
Extra credit: 3.30, 3.36, 3.61, and/or 3.64.
Due: Tuesday, 9/20, anytime before midnight.
Hand in: When you're ready to submit your assignment, combine the answers
to all the exercises into one text file.
Then, attach your file to assignment #3 (where you got this assignment) in Blackboard.
