Can we help you teach Java and object-oriented design?

Do your students need to learn Java - the language of Web applets and AP exams?

Would they want to learn with projects related to real world problems?

Can they begin to learn how to design solutions the way real software engineers do?

Would they like to solve problems using the most popular (and free) environment?

Would you like to have an instructor (from Lehigh University)
with experience teaching at an inner city high school (references available)

teach a unit introducing Java and object-oriented design at your school?

Real world problems students can
relate to, such as a Movie Ticket Machine

Tools to support curriculum: Eclipse IDE
with UML class diagram plug-in and DrJava

Our Java curriculum  has been "road-tested" for three semesters at Dieruff High School's Academy of Information Technology

We describe our curriculum and preliminary results in
Moritz, S. and Blank, G., A Design-First Curriculum for Teaching Java in a CS1 Course,
SIGCSE Bulletin (inroads), June, 2005.

We are looking for high schools or colleges interested in evaluating
our "Design-First" unit and learning environment
