Reported by: Mary A. (Mimi) Stanford 1330 W. Market St. Bethlehem, PA 18018In 2012 we continued our tradition of meeting almost monthly at a different ethnic/affordable restaurant, where we usually met new faces. Some are prospective PCVs (usually college seniors), or parents of PCVs in country, or recent RPCVs. These dinners are usually organized by Ed & Janice Kay. Attendance can range anywhere from 5 to 20. These dinners are mainly social, with sometimes a little business.
We sold 93 calendars (from the Madison, WI, RPCV group). Seven were
given to enthusiastic Lehigh Univ. students who came to a Peace Corps
recruiting meeting in the Fall. They were very eager to hear our
stories, and they asked lots of questions.
Although we made a profit of $638 by the end of 2012, the money was
not donated until 2 months later.
From the profits of the 2011 calendar sale, the following donations
were made:
(1) Somaly Mam Foundation (anti-human-trafficking)
(2) CAI (education for girls in Pakistan)
Ed Kay organizes meetings or panels whenever the Peace Corps recruiter comes to Lehigh University.
