LOOKOUT is a simple integrated development environment for C++, based on MicroEmacs for Windows. It serves as a front-end for the DJGPP port of the Free Software Foundation's C++ compiler and automatically links in the LOOKOUT class library. As the pulldown menu below shows, LOOKOUT makes it easy to locate compiler errors in context, provides error message help (explanations and examples about common error messages) and subscript conversion (telling where in a user's source code an array subscript went out of bounds). LOOKOUT has been updated since the publication of the book. The current version (updated 9/2003) runs on Windows 3.1, 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP.
